Ill Manors: film review

Look at examples of film reviews and make sure you use the key conventions:

  • Name of film, year of release and director
  • Optional star rating
  • Basic introduction to plot and characters - without giving away the ending!
  • Comments on notable elements, strengths or weaknesses
  • Your own views on the film (ideally blended with the point above)
  • A snappy or memorable ending that sums up the film

Name of film : Ill Manors
Year of release : 2012
Age Rating: 18
Director: Plan B "Ben Drew"

Optional star rating: 4 1/2

Ben Drew produces a British Film Crime Drama named "Ill Manors" to portray how the working class has developed as a means of just unrecognisably living up to the name of "the working class." This is shown through multiple storylines that are intertwined into each other which has all stemmed from the root of drugs, violence and living around a council estate area.
The plot of the film follows a few characters who all face dilemmas throughout which has formed around their bad upbringing and the location of where they are living.
Ed and Aaron are built through their friendship since they were children and need to find ways to conduct money using alternations, one being through Michelle, after Ed is released from prison and his phone goes missing.
Marcel has recruited a young man to join his gang and commit a stream of crimes, however, this leads them to a few tragedies.
Katya is finally on the run and experiences at the time what seemed a good idea but later on forms to be something that she deeply regrets.
Chris is the son of Kirby, who is important in the drug industry, and abducts his father's bad traits as he has been introduced to this life from a young age.
There is a vicious circle that links all of these characters together and shows a portrayal and insight to life living on the streets.

Ill Manors is a violent and action striken film from the outset that captivates the audience and unravels the sad truth behind youngsters that are engulfed in a down - spiralling life and are not able to come out of it. Ben Drew's overall aim was to mainly target an audience in order for them to get an understanding and endeavour an open mind towards people who are in this situation so that they are not judged in a degrading way because of their actions but are more understandable of why they have this behaviour. Although, sometimes the low budget editing of this film can be seen, this film generally portrays a good narrative and captivates the ideology of dominant stereotypes but takes a closer look behind these stereotypes.

In my opinion, Ill Manors is a very hardcore and intense film but conveys a deeper meaning. This synergy is also shown through the soundtrack which sounds gritty and unruly but is also meaningful when listened to closely. This mirrors the film and purpose of this film and makes it even more harsh and intriguing. The sequence in which Ill Manors is set also gives the film a good pace and builds the suspense as clues and connections are not revealed too soon but revealed in the correct time making them more shocking to show how intermingled all of the characters are in each others lives because of their bad habits which are enhanced  in this film through its explicitly and uncensorship.
